There’s something pretty special about watching someone walk into the workshop with a bundle of excitement and curiosity, then leave a few days later knowing they have created an epic Hollow Wooden Surfboard .

That’s exactly what happened with Gary, one of the legends from our Wooden Surfboard Making Workshop.

Gary travelled all the way from country Victoria to join us for the class. That kind of commitment already tells you a lot about the stoke level before the tools even come out.

Over the course of the workshop he dove straight into the process, learning the ins and outs of shaping and assembling a hollow wooden surfboard right here in our Brisbane workshop.

The board Gary chose to build is a real beauty ...

It’s a design that blends classic lines with serious performance, and Gary took it one step further by setting it up as a triple fin. The result is a board that doesn’t just look incredible, it’s ready to fly when the waves turn on.

One of the best parts of our wooden surfboard workshops is seeing each board take on its own personality. Even when students build the same model, the timber grain, the finishing touches and the rider’s own style always make it unique.

Gary’s  Gould came together beautifully and quickly became a bit of a showstopper in the workshop.

There’s also a great sense of teamwork that builds over the four days of of class.

Everyone is learning new skills, helping each other out and sharing plenty of laughs along the way.

By the time the boards are finished, there’s a real connection between the people, the process and the craft itself. Gary was right in the middle of that energy, fully embracing the experience from start to finish.

Now Gary has his very own handmade wooden surfboard ready to take into the ocean.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about paddling out on a board you built yourself. Every curve, every rail and every detail tells a story of the time spent in the workshop bringing it to life.

With the triple fin setup and those classic Gould lines, it’s a board built for speed, flow and a few memorable green room moments.

Huge congratulations Gary. It was an absolute pleasure having you in the workshop and seeing that board come together. Here’s to plenty of waves, plenty of stories and a whole lot of good sessions ahead.
