Bywater Surf is a proud stockist of Paulownia Timber
One of the main components of our wooden surfboards is a fantastic wood species called Paulownia

It is a very light, fine grain, pale blonde timber that retains little moisture; absorbing less salt waster than many other types of wood. It is also warp resistant, rot resistant and termite resistant. It is typically knot-free which reduces wastage and results in a fabulous finish. It has the highest strength to weight ratio across all wood, making it incredibly versatile for many crafts and projects.

Paulownia makes a special contribution to the ecology and environment, they are able to grow in areas that lack good quality soil. They are also great at combating erosion and they can absorb 10 times more co2 than any other tree species. Importantly, rainforests are not being ravaged to grow and harvest paulownia.

It is a go-to material for hobbyists of all kinds for model planes, trains and boats to toys, musical instruments and home craft and furniture. Not only used for surfboard but suitable for SUP's, canoes, wakeboards and skies. Watercraft made from paulownia boast smaller environmental impact compared with fibreglass products, which are recognised as pollutants with long decomposition time.

All of our DIY surf kits include the required amount of paulownia for your surfboard, however we are stoked to be able to offer additional paulownia timber for sale for any of your woodcrafting projects. We can also supply cedar, rosewood, maple or silky oak timbers.

With no minimum order amounts we can arrange Australia wide shipping or local pick up in Brisbane, Qld. The timber can be rough sawn or dressed all round. Our Paulownia is sustainable and Australian Grown, sourced from the East Coast of Australia.
