It’s a bucket list item for many folk and we understand why - the satisfaction of making something with your own hands that is not only functional but visually impressive, is something we recommend everyone give a go.

For the experienced woodworker to the novice, the Bywater Surf DIY kits are an excellent way to delve into the world of woodworking, especially if you a surf enthusiast. After years of running in-house workshops for surfboard making we have developed a comprehensive instruction guide that will lead you from A to Z so you successfully craft a beautiful surfboard.

We've had over 200 students pass through our doors with a new wooden surfboard and we've made dozens ourselves, so we know exactly what's required when it comes to making your own surfboard.

Bywater Surf offers two options for the surf kits; either Premium or Customised DIY. The Premium being recommended more for the beginner woodworker, who would like all materials to be machined and cut to size, along with a detailed instruction guide and video content of the whole process. The Customised DIY Kit is more suitable for the experienced woodworkers with access to the required tools to machine and cut the rough sawn materials to size, using 1:1 full-size scale plans for your chosen board. This kit comes with a simple step by step summary.

Depending on which kit you purchase, you’ll receive as much material as possible included in your kit, with the option to add on extra items and products through out shop. Unfortunately we cannot supply the resin and glue so you will have to source these independently, but we can provide recommendations for what we use in house.
